Getter Robo was a 1974 manga and anime series created by Ken Ishikawa, it is commonly misinterpreted as a Go Nagai creation and whilst he certainly contributed to the original manga in the art department and helped Ishikawa with some ideas such as the titular robot. However it is still owned and used by Dynamic Productions, and has been featured in several crossovers with the Devilman and Mazinger series.

The original manga follows Ryoma Nagare, Hayato Jin and Musashi Tomoe three strong willed teenagers who piloted the Getter Robo and its three forms Getter-1, 2, and 3. Originally made for space exploration by Professor Saotome. However it instead becomes Earth's first line of defense against the Dinosaur Empire, an ancient civilization of highly evolved reptiles that have lived underground for thousands of years and now want to retake the Earth for themselves.

There have been many various spin-offs and sequels to the manga and anime, the most famous being the OVA Getter Robo Armageddon.

In Devilman[]

  • The main characters of Getter Robo appear alongside Miki Makimura and Akira Fudo in Getter Robo VS. Devilman. The demoness Sirene and a small band of demons join forces with Emperor Gore and his forces in an attempt to destroy both Devilman and the Getter Robo.
  • In another one of Nagai's recent VS series Getter Robot has a crossover with Demon Lord Dante in the suitably named Demon Lord Dante VS Getter Robo G, sadly however as of yet no translations or raws are online.
  • Many of Ishikawa's designs have a Devilman-like look and theme, the two most notable examples would be the Dinosaur Empire's General Bat and the Getter Robo āḥ, both of which wear devilman like headdresses.
  • Dosu-Roku has a cameo in the manga Getter Robo G, appearing as a member of Hayato's old gang.
